Engine Cooling Revealed
Cool air/fuel mixture enters the engine block beneath the carburetor (carb not shown), and flows rearward. Warming fuel in this mixture begins to vaporize in the crankcase beneath the piston. Heat from combustion (yellow) is conducted upward into the piston head and then radiates into the air or is removed by cooling air (convection). This carefully engineered “cooling system” maximizes power and prevents the piston from melting.
