A massive 8.9 magnitude earthquake has hit Japan, the home of many of RC’s most iconic brands. The island country has been struck by resulting tsunamis that, combined with the earthquake, have led to significant loss of life. It has been reported that this has been the most powerful earthquake to hit Japan in over 100 years. The earthquake’s center was reported to be north of Tokyo and off the eastern coast of Japan and the city of Sendai. RC Car Action and Air Age Media wish the best for the RC companies and all of Japan that have been impacted by this tragedy.
The devastation has been severe. Many well-known RC manufacturers call Japan home. We will continue to report on breaking news and will update this page as we learn how our RC industry friends have fared during this terrible event.
Our friend Steve Pond heard from Kuni of the Kyosho Diecast offices after the quake. Steve relates that the office is located in Atsugi, which is southeast from Tokyo about 275 miles from the epicenter. Thankfully everyone from the office is well.
Below are some RC companies located in Japan:
Futaba. Chiba Prefecture.
Tamiya. Shizuoka City.
O.S. Engines. Osaka.
KO Propo. Arakawa-Ku, Tokyo.
Yokomo Ltd. Adachi-Ku, Tokyo.
