2011 has been a great year in RC. A lot of awesome vehicles and parts have been released and I am really looking forward to seeing what is going to happen next year. As we wrap up 2011 I thought I’d share what I think are the top 10 trucks of the year with you guys. Let’s dig in!
Traxxas monster jam trucks
I love Monster Jam and the same goes for the Monster Jam series of Traxxas trucks. Like many the Grave Digger one is my favorite. The bodies are perfectly detailed (especially the Monster Mutt truck) and the tires
are dead on. Not only are they great replicas of the real deal but they are very user friendly and durable. I really hope that we see more replicas of the monster jam trucks in 2012.
Traxxas stampede 4×4
A lot of people have been asking for a 4×4 version of the Stampede 4×4 and they got it in 2011. And what an awesome truck it is. This all new truck looks awesome, has great traction and is packed full of power right out of the box. You also get plenty of ground clearance for the most extreme bashing conditions.
Team Associated SC10 4×4
I thought for sure that the Team Associated SC10 4×4 was going to be a tweaked version of the AE 4WD buggy and boy was I wrong. I love the way Team Associated attacked this truck when in the design stage. It’s unlike anything out there and has a lot of cool unique features. I have this truck and after a few minor tweaks I have it dialed at PIn Shop Hobbies which is my local track.
Axial Wraith
The only time you saw a truck like this is when someone built it by hand. Axial is well known for crawling and some scale rigs just before the release of this beast. I think that this truck has taken them to the next level in what I call the factory scale scene and you can pick it up a RTR or a kit. I have a Wraith of my own and currently have a ton of parts on the way to build a sick scale truck.
Losi TEN SCTE
I was one of the first people to have a Losi SCTE and I was the only one racing one at Motorama. I almost took the TQ spot and did very well in the main with it. I’m not telling you that to show that I’m awesome (and I am) but that the truck was that good out of the box. Thanks to the design of the truck I was able to easily adapt it to nitro by using existing parts from the Losi 810 buggy. I love it even more now.
Tamiya Blackfoot III
This truck was one of my favorite trucks as a kid and I am very excited to see it back. This updated version of the Blackfoot features a bullet proof transmission and a unique chassis. With a little part searching I’m pretty sure you can change it from a 2wd truck to a 4wd truck. You can never go wrong with an awesome scale truck body like that and I’m willing to bet that you’ll see a lot of scale trucks using them in the near future.
Apache C1 flux
I was able to see the Apache C1 fist hand at the SEMA show in Las Vegas and I couldn’t stop saying wow. It combines 1/8-scale performance with awesome scale looks. And because it’s based on an existing 1/8-scale buggy platform, there are already a lot of option and hop up parts available for it. I would love to get my hands on one of these so that I can enhance its scale look.
Team Associated SC10 RS
I’m a racer and run many different vehicles when I can actually find time to hit the track. I got my hands on a Team Associated SC10 RS and brought it to the track on one of my few race day weekends. It’s a great truck for bashing but it’s built on a race platform and the RS version has a lot of stuff that racers would love including a fast brushless motor and soft JConcepts race rubber. I loved my truck on the track. It had enough traction and power to pull wheelies from time to time.
Losi 5IVE-T
WHAT?! I never thought I’d see a 1/5-scale truck from Losi. It’s very cool to see that it’s basically a 1/8-scale buggy platform that has been blown up. I’m a very big (get it?) fan of 1/5-scale vehicles and it’s cool to not only see a new one in the mix but to have a truck that handles well and drives like no other.
HPI Savage XS Flux
I’ll be the first to tell you that I’m not a fan of smaller RC vehicles but this one is just the right size for me. Its insane
power to weight ratio makes it very fun to drive; HPI claims that this little truck is capable of reaching 65MPH. With it being waterproof it’s a great vehicle for the snow and mud.
