Daniel Siegl likes a challenge. When Daniel realized that his trip to the US from his native Austria would perfectly coincide with the 5th Annual Recon G6 Birthday Bash, held at Moon Rocks in Reno, NV, he decided to put a truck together to compete. But rather than go with a conventional crawler, he decided to build up a Tamya MF01X Suzuki Jimny! He calculated that correct motor selection would be key in making the Jimny perform–its 8:1 overall gearing presented significant challenges compared to traditional crawlers which can have up to a 40:1 ratio. He finally decided on a Tekin ROC412 500kV motor with an RS2 controller running on 3S to give him the right balance of torque and wheel-speed. He cut away some of the lower chassis to get some additional belly clearance, and he swapped A-arms and other hop-up parts from a Tamiya M05/M06. A set of H-Speed bearings keep things turning smoothly, and he installed a Lockedup RC Freespool winch controlled by a Tekin B1R controller on a separate 3S Lipo installed over the front axle for optimum weight balance. RC4WD Baja MTZ tires on 1.55 steelies deliver the grip to let the Jimny climb with the big boys. The interior sports a modified cage and drivers from an HPI Mini Trophy Truck for a scale look, and once in Reno Daniel added a bumper custom-fabricated by Werty Made RC overnight to protect the front end. Daniel did pretty well with the little Jimny, and he definitely had one of the most unique setups at the event.
