I hate the winter season. I wish I were more accepting of terrible weather, but I’m not. I prefer warm temperatures over cold weather. I prefer clear, blue days over gray, depressing skies. I prefer sunlight to darkness…and when it gets dark at 5PM, I know I’m having my winter blues. Sure, a So Cal “winter’ doesn’t really qualify as a winter at all, and I sound pretty whiny right now…but that’s not the point. I’m just excited that it’s spring time once again. As daylight’s savings time allows us to “spring forward” an hour on the clock, my energy levels do the same. The grass is literally greener this time of year, birds are singing, and the Kentucky Derby is right around the corner. I can’t help but feel the RC racing itch once again.
This spring and summer, I plan to continue racing 1/8-scale buggy–my first love in RC–but I also plan to attack the short course classes in 2wd and 4wd. Short course is just too much fun. I’ve tested plenty of trucks and I’ve run thousands of laps with SC trucks in the last year or two, but the fender banging, take-out nature of SC in its infant days several years ago tended to cause blood pressure spikes that my cardiologist would tell me to avoid. So I’m back at it again. A new year brings a new spring, and with it new grass on the ground, new flowers budding in the park and a new SC truck ready to T-bone anyone that gets in my way.
What classes are you racing this year? If you’re already racing SC, have you considered picking up one of the new 4WD trucks from the many manufacturers who’ve jumped into the game? Share your thoughts here and let me know.
