Latest race news from Losi:
The team took the brand new Losi XXX-SCT to the JBRL Finals at Hot Rod Hobbies for its racing debut this past weekend. Product Manager Keith Whisler, and team drivers Ryan Dunford, Casper Nielsen, and I all had early samples of the XXX-SCT RTR. The track was the typical high-bite blue groove that Hot Rod has become famous for and the weather was perfect setting up a great weekend of racing!
The 8-minute A-main event was setup well, and a large crowd gathered around the track to see how the XXX-SCT would stack up in racing conditions; it did not disappoint! Root’s truck was able to get an early lead and check out, driving away from the field with fast lap after fast lap. The real action went on a little further back in the field. Coming from 9th and 10th on the grid, Ryan and Casper started to carve their way through the field, making nice clean passes and showing the precise handling of the XXX-SCT. Ryan made it all way up to 3rd and was chasing down second place, but ran out of time. Casper would finish a strong 6th. Upfront, the XXX-SCT was awesome, and Root was able to take the win by nearly a full lap!
The XXX-SCT showed it will be very competitive at the race track debuting with 3 trucks in the main, the TQ, two trucks on the podium, and most importantly, the win. Look for many more victories to come!

Keith Whisler: [It went] excellent; I couldn’t of written a better script. We TQ’ed the Intermediate (10.5-turn) class. We put three out of our four trucks in the A-Main. We ended up winning the first time out with our truck which was really exciting.
KW: We only made a couple of changes. We chose the correct tires for a blue-groove surface. We also swapped out the electronics with brushless equipment for the 10.5-turn class. We changed the shock pistons and shock fluid, but that’s it. We wanted to run the truck basically as a ready-to-run and see how it would do.
KW: Yes, all of our drivers are going to start racing the XXX-SCT trucks. The goal is that all of our top electric racers will race these trucks at all of the big races that feature a short course class. The class is starting to get serious, but I think the pros are having a lot of fun with them.
KW: Basically, I was responsible for quarterbacking the whole thing. We have an engineer in house that I worked closely with. I conducted testing and worked with all the vendors and was the middleman between the vendors and our engineer.
KW: The main challenge was that we have the widest stadium truck in the XXX-T CR. So we had to change the chassis and we also wanted to make the truck so the racers could utilize as many of the parts from their XXX-T platform as possible. We had a ton of success with our stadium truck platform, so it was important to make sure our racers could use towers, and many of the hop-ups they have in their toolboxes.
KW: We have definitely heard that the public is interested in that. At this time we definitely have it in the back of our minds. We can’t guarantee we’ll go that route. The class changes so quickly it’s really hard to say right now.
