This past weekend marked the Inaugural JConcepts Summer Indoor Championships, which were held at AMain Hobbies Outback Raceway. The plush facility features an indoor hard-packed clay track that has tons of traction, is air-conditioned, unbelievable parts availability (thanks to AMain’s warehouse), and has a snack bar. The pits are dope too, with low tables for working on your cars while seated. There were classes for all types of electric racers including 2WD and 4WD short course classes, a novice (run what your brung) class, 2WD modified, 4WD modified and Modified Stadium Truck. Several of JConcepts top racers competed including Steven Hartson, Tanner Denney and JCon owner Jason Rouna. Not only did racers get to compete in a 75-degree temperature controlled building on a sweet track, but dozens of them went home with over $10,000 in raffle swag. That’s right, JConcepts, Tekin, KO Propo, Traxxas, Team Associated, Novak, Dialed Inc., ProTek R/C, Schumacher, HPI and several others donated kits, chargers, LiPo batteries, tires, gift certificates and speed controllers. It was such an awesome race that AMain Hobbies and JConcepts announced that the race would be held again next year around the same time.

Here is a list of the winners in each class.

 Modified 4WD 1) Steven Hartson

2) Tanner Denny

This weekend I’m at RC Excitement in Fitchburg, MA for the JConcepts North East Champs. The race is being held on RC Excitement’s indoor off-road track. The track surface is super smooth and the layout is very technical so speed isn’t going to help you much here this weekend. Jason and Alison Ruona from JConcepts are here this weekend along with Brian Kinwald and Paul Sinclair of XFactory and Steve Hartson of Team Associated. We going to run 2 rounds of qualifying today with one more tomorrow followed by the Mains. I’m going to be racing this weekend as well and I brought my Durango DEX410R to run on the track. I’m used to running slightly less responsive 1/8-scale buggies so we’ll see how it goes. I’m making some minor tweaks to the setup of my buggy before hitting the track and it looks like the first round of qualifying will be practice for me. I’ll be posting photos and videos all weekend so keep checking in to catch the action.

Round 2 of qualifying is almost over and it looks like we’re going to try to get a third round in today. These guys run a tight ship and do a great job of keeping things moving through the day. It’s cool to be hanging out with the pro drivers. A lot of these guys don’t get to see them in action and they are throwing it down on the track this weekend. The track surface is somewhere between being loose and having good traction. Taking the time to find a good setup for this track is really paying off for some out here. There’s a night and day difference in some of the vehicles on the track. I’m having fun on the track with my Durango DEX410R and am starting to get it dialed in so I’m glad to see another round of qualifying today.

After round three of qualifying the guys at the shop setup a question and answer panel with the pro racers and I so the racers here could ask us questions. The shop hooked us up with pizza during the question and answer session so I was quite happy. Round four of qualifying has just ended and the mains are being set up as I write this. All of the sponsors donated a lot of prizes for the event and many people are leaving with a lot of extra gear today after the raffle. The mains will be starting soon and I think that it’s safe to say that everyone at the JConcepts Northeast Champs are having a great time.

I’m working on uploading more vids and photos. I’d like to thank Russell Pead from Frame-buy-Frame photography for hooking me up with some photos of the event.
