Futaba Electric Challenge: Day 2 Recap

21 August, 2011

Before we kicked off the 2011 Futaba Electric Challenge we held a brief driver’s meeting to go over all the grounds rules with everyone in attendance for the trophy race. After a few minutes of going over the rules with the drivers and answering questions, everyone took of their hats for the national anthem, and then we started up the 1st qualifier to officially kick off the event!

Today’s race program called for 3 rounds of qualifying and then the mains. After we had completed all the qualifiers we took a short break to draw a winner for the 50/50 raffle and then give away all the door prizes from the many generous sponsors. After this was completed it was time for the mains to begin.

Every class ran a single A main except for Pro Buggy which ran two. After the mains wrapped up we held two dash 4 cash races for the top 6 qualifiers in the Sportsman and Pro buggy classes.  Then to end the night we ran a 2 person short course truck enduro race for 30 minutes.  Tomorrow racing resumes again T 10Am with 3 more rounds of qualifying followed by the mains, and then finally the awards.

We didn’t hand out awards after today’s mains since the overall winner isn’t determined until after we run again tomorrow.  This is what makes the Futaba Electric Challenge so unique. To take home the overall win for your class you have to be successful over two days of racing and on two different track layouts. On Sunday we will run the track in reverse and your winner on Saturday might be the loser on Sunday, thus the race really lives up to its name.
