As teased previously, ARRMA has announced their new super-sized Raider XL BLX buggy. We’re used to seeing 1/8 scale 4WD buggies, but 2WD models in this size are rare. Click the pics to enlarge, we’ll talk details along the way.
It’s hard to get a sense of scale based on this pic, but if you scope the size of the shocks compared to the rest of the car, you can get a better feel for it. Length is 18.5″
Looks long and low. The chassis is a plastic tub sandwiched between aluminum side plates. The lights are a nice styling touch, but do not appear to be LED-ready based on the exploded views in the manual (which you can download here).
The battery is out in this shot, you can where it fits in the chassis. The battery bay is accessed via a trap door in the chassis’ underside. Note the access hatch over the servo.
The transmission uses a standard 3-gear, “diff on the bottom” layout with metal gears throughout. The differential is gasket- and o-ring sealed, as seen in this render. The transmission also features a dual-pad slipper clutch, and dogbone driveshafts complete the drivetrain.
The electronics package includes ARRMA’s usual ATX100 2.4GHz system, along with a 97 oz.-in. servo, 80amp speed control, and 3600KV sensorless motor (all waterproof). ARRMA promises 60mph from the system when you add a 3S LiPo and gear for speed.
A 7-cell 4600mAh NiMH battery is included, and equipped with a Deans-style plug. ARRMA also supplies a 600mAh wall charger for the pack.
