Team Talk – Tanner Day

13 October, 2015

For this weeks Team Talk, we catch up with JConcepts driver and recent two-time ROAR National Champion, Tanner Day.

How did you get started in radio control, and how long have you been racing?
I got started in RC when my Dad and I decided to find something to do together. We went to a local Hobby Shop and got a couple of cars and it all started from there. I’ve been racing for almost 5 years as of this December.

What’s your favorite class? And why?
2wd Mod Buggy has always been my favorite class, it’s a popular class that I am good in. It fits my driving style the best, plus there is always a good heat of Mod Buggy at club races.

What race do you look forward to the most every year?
The race I look forward to every year would have to be the Gold Cup Race at Tacoma RC Raceway. This is my favorite race because there is always great competition, the layouts are always super dialed and I get to race with a lot of my teammates and have a great time.

Do you have any race day rituals?
I usually tend to freshen up my shocks and go through my cars before Main days. Besides that, I always try to have a good time and do the best I can.

Who are some of the people that have helped you the most in RC?
To start off, I’d have to say my Mom and Dad. They have supported me and have taken me to races as much as they can. They always try to help out in any way possible. The next person that comes to mind would have to be my buddy Thomas Tran. The amount of help and support he has given me the past year has been over the top and I can’t thank him enough for everything. Joe pillars is also another person who has made a big impact on my racing. Joe has always been willing to help out whenever he is available and he has always been willing to take me club racing when he goes. Best team manager for sure!!

What RC accomplishment are you most proud of?
I’d have to say it would be my most recent race, Tacoma RC Raceway’s 2015 Gold Cup. I took the win in 2wd Mod Buggy, 4wd Mod Buggy and 2wd Mod Truck. The amount of help and support my teammates gave me and all my friends especially Stephen Butler, it makes it my favorite race of the year for sure!!

Congratulations on your two ROAR national titles this year! Do you plan on defending your titles next year in Stock, or are you moving up to the Modified ranks?
Thank you, I had a blast in Arizona for sure! The next Nationals I attend, I plan to run the Modified classes, most likely 2wd and 4wd Mod Buggy.

Racing at the highest level is very time consuming. What do your non RC friends think about what you do?
I’m not too sure, I’m either at the RC track or at home doing school work so I don’t have a lot of friends that don’t race but the few that don’t race think it’s interesting and would like to try it someday.

What song best describes your racing?
I have no idea, LOL, I don’t think I could pick one.

Apple or Android?
Android for sure!

What’s your favorite source for RC news?
It would for sure be 2wdmod.com. Best photos and write ups for sure!

What’s your favorite JConcepts product? And why?
It’s hard to pick one because I use so many JConcepts products and I like them all and use them a lot. I’d have to say its either the JConcepts Finnisher car stands or the Ride Height and Camber Gauges.

We want to thank you for taking the time to answer some questions. Please give a shout out to your sponsors.
Thanks to all my sponsors for all the help and support this year! You guys are the best and I couldn’t be more thankful. Kyosho, Orion, JConcepts, Airtronic, Hella Graphics, McKune Design, Lunsford, 2wdmod.com, JTP, 541RC, LiveRC.com
