1/8th Fuel Nationals Update – Friday Morning Practice

17 July, 2009

Picking up where I left off we were waiting on the last round of truck and buggy.

Maifield got on the track with truck Sevens and put in a confidence run.  32.2 fastest lap.  Looked awesome! Second fastest lap of the round. Ty Tessman had a 31.9 but without another 32 in the race everyone had doubts if that was a track jump lap to clear other cars.

Maifield was up next in buggy and went out and put down some solid high 32’s and low 33’s.  Brent and crew really liked what they saw.  I think he is capable of mid to low 32’s so I wanted one more practice run at the end of the day.

Control practice ended with JR Mitch looking good.  33.4 fastest lap which looks to be the right pace for a semi-final type run.  They are using the ladder system and the goal is to either qualify in the top 9 and not have to bump or qualify in the semi and give yourself a chance to run with the big dogs.

1 last practice run for Maifield at the end of the day with Bar Codes in buggy.  32.1 fastest lap I’ve seen in buggy all day. Mid 32’s were common with any kind of clean lap.

Qualifying next!
